DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Foundation for Resilience
ECOLOGICAL DESIGN
Resilient in Communities
Design thinking is inspired yes, but grounded in co-operation and practicality. A Leadership in Energy&Environmental Design professional, I use the Integrated Design Process (IDP) of getting all the disciplines and stakeholders early into the process. Better to make those clarifications, exchanges, brilliant breakthroughs, compromises and changes upstream rather than downstream. This is taking resilience right into the hands of the clients and partners. Ecologics Design ensures that we value deep benefits and costs in all projects.
SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
Resilient in Action
Sean has been working on renewable energy and energy efficiency for decades, beginning with greenhouses. His expertise was honed and tested in the Better Buildings Parternship, a City-Industry trade association promoting the sector. As an example, this City of Toronto Community Centre has energy efficiency at its core, solar & geothermal heating and cooling capabilities, and has added solar PV from the Renewable Energy Office to the mix. Carbon reduction by Design.
URBAN FOOD SYSTEMS
Resilient in Nature
This Roof Garden at a Toronto High School represents action and evolution.
As part of his City-wide urban agriculture responsibilities, Sean early recognized the need to lead a greenroof design movement in Toronto. He rallied the design disciplines and community growers to research, educate, experiment and get City policy on rooftop greening underway. This site was a testbed in that process. Likewise, a policy leader, I was key organizer of the First North American Urban Agriculture conference in Philadelphia. We have not stopped in our efforts.
